The Colinton Amenity Association stands independent of all political parties as it needs to represent or appeal to people of any political persuasion or none. A recent advertisement in a political newsletter should not be taken to infer any affiliation or support for that party.
The Executive Committee has four sub-committees, which deal with its main activities of Planning, Transport, Environment and Communications.
Planning Committee members, each week, visit the Planning Department of the City of Edinburgh Council to inspect all planning applications for developments that refer to Colinton and its environs. Representations, by way of comment or objection, are submited to the Council on all applications that could have a detrimental impact upon the character and amenity of Colinton. A number of these have to be sustained through the planning appeal process. Comments are also submitted on a wide range of consultation documents, issued by Government and Local Government bodies.
The Transport Committee members monitor transport matters within and around Colinton – with particular regard to safety, traffic flow, congestion, parking, and road condition issues.
Communication Committee members are responsible for the production and distribution of the twice yearly Colinton Newsletter that reports the activities of the Association and other important issues affecting the environment and amenity of Colinton. The newsletter is distributed by volunteers to all households in Colinton.
