Today, Colinton is a suburb in Edinburgh. The original heart of Colinton is still referred to as "Colinton Village", retaining much of its original village charm with numerous small speciality shops such as Downes fruit and vegetables, Mathurs Colinton Convenience Store, and Colinton Arts. There is also the local Post Office, bank and two restaurants, Dantes Trattoria and Mackenzies Restuarant.
The two churches, Colinton Parish Church and St Cuthbert's Episcopal Church form the mainstay of the community. They act as a base for many community activities such as Colinton Literary Society, the local Boys Brigade, Country Dancing as well as Badminton clubs and a venue for the Colinton Orchestra. There are also many other local groups such as the Colinton History Society, Colinton Garden Club and well as the 108th Pentland Scout Group and the local Girl Guide groups. The two public houses, the Spylaw Tavern and the Colinton Inn, provide meals and relaxation for local residents and visitors to the village who enjoy the local walks through the Dell and in the many woodland areas around Colinton.
