To report invasive or non‑native species on privately owned land, please contact the Council’s Environmental Health Service on 0131 200 2000 (option 8 then option 5) or 0131 608 1100.

Each year, Colinton Amenity Association  normally takes part in the Water of Leith Walkway clean‑up, covering the stretch from the Bypass Bridge down to Katesmill Bridge. This event normally takes place on a Sunday in April and lasts around two hours, with a team of local volunteers helping to keep this much‑loved route clean and welcoming. Our contribution forms part of the wider Water of Leith Trust programme, which supports the river environment from Balerno all the way to Leith.

CAA also organises similar clean‑ups in Redford Woods and Covenanters Wood, usually on Sundays in April. The local Scouts lead the Covenanters Wood clean‑up, while local volunteers carry out the Redford Woods clean‑up.

For all of these events, CAA advertises locally to invite volunteers to take part, and details are posted on this website and our noticeboards when dates are confirmed. The time and effort given by all volunteers is greatly appreciated.

For a clean and tidy Colinton, we all have to make the effort ourselves — and these community clean‑ups show just how much can be achieved when we work together.

Spylaw Park is proud to hold the Green Flag Award, the national benchmark of excellence for parks and greenspaces across the United Kingdom. The park first received this award in 2023, following a significant programme of improvements delivered over the preceding two years.

These improvements were achieved through a strong partnership between Colinton Amenity Association, the City of Edinburgh Council’s Parks Department, and the Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust (ELGT). The Council provided most of the funding and carried out major enhancements to the park area, while ELGT secured additional funding and led improvements to the woodlands and the main access route. CAA also contributed financially, including funding new signposts.

The Green Flag Award recognises the collective effort invested in Spylaw Park and reflects the community’s commitment to maintaining a high‑quality, welcoming greenspace for everyone.

Colinton Amenity Association maintains regular contact with Council officers in the South West Locality Team, ensuring that local environmental issues are raised and addressed as promptly as possible.
