1927 - The Beginnings

CAA is founded to protect the character, landscape and heritage of the village.

 

1930s - Strengthening Community Voice

CAA becomes a recognised voice in local matters, engaging with the City of Edinburgh Council.

 

1940s - Wartime and Recovery

CAA supports community resilience during the war and contributes to post war rebuilding discussions.

 

1950s Protecting the Dell

Advocacy to preserve the Colinton Dell helps safeguard it as a cherished green corridor.

 

1960s - The Railway Closes

CAA supports repurposing the former railway route, contributing to what becomes the Water of Leith Walkway.

 

1970s - Heritage and Conservation

Focus on preserving historic buildings and promoting sensitive development within the village.

 

1980s - Growing Membership and Influence

Membership expands and CAA becomes a key point of contact for community consultation.

 

1990s - Modernisation and Communication

Communication methods are updated and the Colinton Magazine grows in readership and importance.

 

2000s - Environmental Stewardship

CAA plays an active role in traffic, conservation and public space discussions; links with the Water of Leith Conservation Trust deepen.

 

2010s - Community Partnerships Flourish

Partnerships with local groups, including the Colinton History Society, Tiphereth, Colinton Village Enterprise and the Colinton & Merchiston Choir, broaden the CAA’s reach.

 

2020s - A New Era of Engagement

Digital access to information expands; the Colinton Magazine becomes an annual publication, with editions archived at key heritage institutions.

 

2027 - Centenary Celebrations

CAA marks 100 years of service, collaborating with local organisations on a year long programme of events.
